BJP candidate Namisha Mehta booked for seeking votes in exchange of money, liquor

The Police in Garhshankar after getting that audio recording booked filed a case against her.

A case has been registered against the women candidate of BJP in the Doaba region on Saturday.

The BJP candidate was booked in Garhshankar constituency of Hoshiarpur District for allegedly trying to woo voters in exchange for money and liquor. Apart from her, five others were booked in Sultanpur Lodhi Assembly segments in Kapurthala district for promising voters Rs 1,500 per vote in favour of independent candidate Rana Inder Partap Singh, son of Cabinet minister and Congress candidate from Kapurthala Rana Gurjit Singh.

An audio recording of BJP candidate Nimisha Mehta went viral. Nimisha, in a telephonic conversation, asks the man to get votes in exchange for liquor and money. Addressing the man as ‘mamaji” she said, "Tuhanu koi daaru chalan di lodh ya paise den di lodh jerhe lokan nu dene hain kayonki lokan nu convert karna saukha tan hai ni." 

She also added that from where you get all, I will send the slips (related to liquor supply) and you complete the work as people has to enjoy and we are left with only two days now. We will make them drink and get their votes and if you need anything for women folk then also tell me.

The Police in Garhshankar after getting that audio recording booked Mehta under 1Section 71E and 171H of IPC and People’s representation Act.

In Sultanpur Lodhi, Neeta of Lodhi Bhulana village told police that five people knocked on his door in the morning and asked him to come out of the house. They then told him to vote for Rana Inder Partap Singh and for every vote Rs 1500 will be given.


The accused have been identified as Sodhi and Sukhdeep Singh, resident of village Lodhi Bhulana, Sukhwinder Singh of Saido Bhulana, Sabi and Bhupinder Singh of village Muradpur, all belong to Sultanpur Lodhi constituency. Police have arrested Bhupinder Singh and seized Rs 61,000 from him while others are absconding.
