Cadbury has once again landed up amidst furor from Indian users, this time in link with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Boycott Cadbury has started trending on Twitter in links with one of the company’s ads on Diwali.

The clip of the ad which is caught at the center of the user’s wrath was posted through a tweet by VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi while raising her objections over the portrayal of a poor lamp-selling character in the ad named ‘Damodar.’

In her tweet, she drew the line joining the connection of the character with PM Modi’s father and raised a strict objection over the usage of Damodar’s name for the character selling lamp in the ad.

Her tweet read, “Have you carefully observed Cadbury chocolate's advertisement on TV channels? The shopless poor lamp seller is Damodar. This is done to show someone with PM Narendra Modi's father's name in poor light. Chaiwale ka baap diyewala. Shame on cadbury Company #BoycottCadbury.”

Following the suit, thousands of other users started tweeting with the #BoycottCadbury trend. This is not the first time that Cadbury came under the fire of Indian Twitter users. In 2021, a similar boycott call was given which prompted the company to issue a statement clarifying that all its products in India are 100% vegetarian and the green dot on the wrapper stands for that.

Among those tweeting over the trend, there were several others who shared the screenshot of the product description page from the site of the company’s Australia wing, which read, "Please note, if any of our Australian products contain gelatine in the ingredients, the gelatine we use is halal certified and derived from beef."

However, the claims showing beef contained in the products of the company were found to be extremely false, a confirmation about which has already been given by the company’s India division back in 2021 when it came under the heat of the Indian user when a similar trend was on brawl in India.
