In a tragic development, a passenger bus collided head-on with a car near Adda Sagaran on the Dasuha-Hajipur road, in Hoshiarpur district. The tragic incident occurred on Monday. The impact was so strong that the bus lost its control and overturned in the middle of the road, resulting in the death of seven people on the spot, while over 17 others sustained serious injuries.
As per information received, the bus was reportedly heading toward Dasuha when it met with the accident on a narrow, single-lane stretch. It has been reported that the bus was traveling at high speed, and hence it rammed into an oncoming car, causing it to overturn and slide several meters along the road. The force of the crash led to chaos inside the bus, with terrified passengers screaming for help.
The sound of the collision drew residents from nearby areas to the scene, where they immediately began rescue efforts. Due to the extent of the damage and the number of people trapped inside, a JCB machine was used to pull out both the injured and the deceased from the mangled vehicle.
Over 15 critically injured passengers were referred to hospitals in Amritsar for advanced treatment. Those with minor injuries were treated at nearby health centers. Police reached the spot soon after the incident and began an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Fortunately, those traveling in the car sustained only minor injuries, according to police reports.
DSP Kulwinder Singh of Dasuha was quoted as saying, “Initial investigation suggests a head-on collision between a speeding bus and a car. The injured were rescued with the help of locals and machinery and taken to nearby hospitals. We will take appropriate action based on the facts revealed during the investigation.”
The bus driver was also seriously injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment. Police are currently working to identify the deceased and have informed the families of the injured.
