
Takingcognizance of the report sent by CyberTipline, Jalandhar police will be registering cases against three persons for browsing, viewing and sharing objectionablecontent related to children on social media platforms.
Theaccused have been identified as Hardeep Singh, a resident of Succhi Pind,Rajinder Shah, a resident of Kabulpur and Jasvir Singh, a resident of BahopurVillage.
ADGPCyberCrime, Punjab said that following reports from CyberTipline, the CyberCell of Jalandhar and Mohali Police have been investigating the matter in which thesethree youths were found sharing Child Pornographic content on their Facebookmessenger and Instagram ID. He said the case will be registered against them undersection 67B of the Information Technology (IT) Act at their respective PoliceStations in Rama Mandi, Bhogpur and Maqsuda.
Whenasked how exactly they got the information about these youths, Jalandhar Policeinformed that CyberTipline— a nation's centralized reporting system for theonline exploitation of children, being run under the supervision of Ministry ofHome Affairs, Government of India, regularly monitors various social mediaplatforms and internet websites to keep check on online enticement andobjectionable content related to children.
“Itwas through CyberTipline, we received the information and mobile numbers ofthese youth. We are getting the matter investigated by Cyber Cell Jalandhar and Mohali.The accused had shared pornographic videos related to children and othercontent on their social media sites. We are monitoring their social media accounts to gather moreinformation”, he said.
JalandharPolice further said that it is a serious crime under section 67B of the IT act,which entails imprisonment upto 5 years and a fine of upto Rs 10 Lakh. Even sharing a video having pornography content can land you injail.
