Abhishek Kapoor made his directorial debut with Aryan (2006), but his filmmaking career took off with Rock On (2008). After that, he directed Kai Po Che (2013), which was late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's first film. They regrouped for Kedarnath since they had so much fun working together (2018). In the meanwhile, they tried to work together on Abhishek's Kashmir drama Fitoor (2016), but it didn't work out. Nonetheless, both Kai Po Che and Kedarnath were profitable projects, and both were clearly fond of one other.

Yesterday, December 9, Abhishek Kapoor's new film Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor, got released. Fans of Sushant Singh Rajput would be surprised to see that Abhishek has paid tribute to the late actor in the opening disclaimer. Before the film begins, a slate with Sushant's photo and the words 'In loving memory of...Sushant Singh Rajput' is shown.

The actor's birth and death dates were included , as well as the words 'Stay Interstellar,' which Abhishek had also put in his post shortly after the actor's death were written there.

According to a story in the leading daily, Ayushmann Khurrana's part was initially scheduled to be played by Sushant Singh Rajput. Abhishek Kapoor, the film's director, had intended to cast SSR, but owing to the actor's unfortunate death, Ayushmann was brought in.

Abhishek Kapoor's gesture earlier this year on Sushant's birthday, January 21, had similarly won hearts. In honour of the actor, he and his producer wife Pragya Kapoor organized a planting campaign. They planted up to 1,000 trees, fulfilling a dream on Sushant Singh Rajput's bucket list, which he posted in 2019.
