Business and employment-related social media, Indeed, has recently published its survey titled 'Indeed PayMap Survey 2025'. Indeed PayMap Survey 2025 analyzed data from 1,311 employers and 2,531 employees across 14 industries and 16 job roles in India. Based on the result, the survey found that Chandigarh professionals with 5–8 years of experience now earn an average of Rs 68,400 per month. This puts the city ahead of Delhi and even close to Hyderabad, the current leader for mid-career salaries.
However, the low cost of living in Chandigarh has put the union territory among one of the most desired destinations for working professionals. Once overshadowed by traditional metros like Delhi and Mumbai, Chandigarh is now offering competitive salaries across experience levels, especially in the mid-senior bracket.
Notably, Chandigarh is also not far behind in terms of average salary for freshers. Indeed Survey points out that for entry-level roles, Chandigarh offers an average monthly salary of Rs 26,300, which is at par with Delhi. Working professionals of Chandigarh enjoy an added advantage of a lower cost of living and better work-life balance, according to employee sentiment gathered in the report.
Indian cities that are paying more to experienced employees than Chandigarh are- Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
What is the average salary of an employee in Chandigarh?
- Entry-Level (0–2 yrs): Rs 26,300/month
- Mid-Level (2–5 yrs): Rs 45,500/month
- Senior-Level (5–8 yrs): Rs 68,400/month
What's concerning in the survey?
The survey also found that 69% of Indian employees feel their salaries aren’t keeping pace with rising living costs, especially in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. In contrast, cities like Chandigarh are gaining favor not only for offering better compensation-to-expense ratios but also due to a growing reluctance among workers to relocate for work.
"Chandigarh is fast becoming a sweet spot for professionals seeking career growth without the financial and emotional burden of metro living," said an Indeed India analyst.
With IT/ITeS and project management roles leading the salary charts, the survey indicates a strong shift in India’s economic gravity, from overburdened metros to agile Tier-2 cities like Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
