Delhi Capitals have registered a win over Chennai Super Kings. DC won by 7 wickets and 8 balls to spare. As convincing as it was for DC, CSK has a lot of thinking to be done before they play next time.

At the post-match presentation, MS Dhoni spoke about the failure in the game. He said that dew was a major factor, and it was on their minds from the outset, which is why they wanted to get as many runs as possible. Since it was tacky before dew settled in 50 minutes later, the batters did a decent job reaching 188. They should have bowled a little bit better, but if hitters are throwing you over the fields, that's understandable. The bowlers' execution was bad, and they bowled boundary balls, but the bowlers will have learned from their mistakes and will apply what they have learned in future games. To be fair, we need to score 15-20 runs more than the opposition in a 7:30 start when the pitch is quite tacky and the ball stops a little. On a pitch like this, 200 would be a must if we get dew on a regular basis. When it was stopping and seaming a little, their (Delhi) bowlers bowled a great line, and the openers got really good balls in which they got out, which can happen in a game like this.

Prithvi Shaw on his brilliant batting performance said "I am in a good mood. It was a good start and everybody contributed (to the season). In the second innings, the wicket was ideal for batting, and we performed admirably. When I was dropped from Australia, I was working from there, returning and crossing early, so I practiced before going to Vijay Hazare with Pravin Amre and working on that. I had a solid plan in place before entering the tournament, and it's working out nicely. I don't want to think about it (being dropped from the Indian team), because it was a disappointing experience for me, but I have to move on, and if there is anything wrong with my batting or technique, I have to change, and I am doing so."

The captain for the first match in IPL, Rishabh Pant, when asked about the performance on the day said " It's always satisfying to come out on top in the end. I was under some stress during the middle process. However, Avesh and Tom (Curran) did a good job limiting them to 188 in the center. Walking out for the coin toss with MS was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He's always been  my go-to guy. He has taught me a great deal. We were debating what we'd do without Nortje and Rabada, and I figured we'd have to make do with what we had. No, the NRR made no effort because the tournament is still in its early stages. In the powerplay, Prithvi and Shikhar performed admirably for us. They kept it straightforward and executed some excellent cricket shots."
