Ludhiana, March 2: In the wake of the advisory by theNational Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) regarding Heat wave 2021, theDeputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Tuesday directed the officers ofthe administration to submit ‘Heat Wave Action Plan’ for the district within aweek. 

In a communiqué to the officers, the Deputy Commissioner,while citing the advisory issued after the prediction of Indian MeteorologicalDepartment, asked them to ensure proper preparedness for mitigating andmanaging the head wave in 2021. 

He said that for this a multi-sectoral and multi-dimensionaladministrative approach involving activities like provision for clean drinkingwater in the district, temporary shelter and sheds, rescheduling of workinghours for outdoor labour and use of parks, providing better emergency medicalservices, public health, re-schedule load shedding of power to avoid peak heathour and others must be adopted. 

Sharma said that early planning for the potential heat wavein the coming months could help to take appropriate measures to combat adverseimpacts of wave. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that in order to enable thedistrict to prepare itself for effective management of heat wave conditions,this plan must be submitted within a week so that necessary steps could betaken accordingly. 

He said that while preparing the plan focus should be laidon creating awareness amongst the people regarding the Heat Wave Precautionarymeasures. 

Likewise, Sharma said that thrust should also be laid toprevent sunstroke deaths as per the action plan.
