The King of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, has divorced his wife Princess Haya. In lieu of this, he will have to pay about $733 million (554 million pounds) to the princess, according to the order by UK High Court.

As per the court, King will have to pay this amount for divorce settlement and secure the future of the children. This settlement is one of the largest settlements in British legal history.

High Court Judge Philip Moore said in his ruling that Princess Haya and her children could face threats such as terrorism or kidnapping. In such a situation, special arrangements should be made for their safety, said High Court

According to lawyers, Sheikh will have to pay $333 million (251.5 million pounds) to Princess Haya and $384 million (290 million pounds) will be credited to the bank, as security for the future and education of both children Jalila, 14, and Zayed, 9. Apart from this, He has to pay $148 million (11.2 million pounds) every year for children’s maintenance.

Princess Haya had also asked for about $1.85 billion (1.4 billion pounds) for the divorce settlement.

During nearly seven hours of testimony, Haya, 47, stated that a big one-time payment would allow for a clean break and would free her and her children from the Sheik's control.

“I really want to be free, and I really want them to be free,” she told the judge.

Princess Haya was the sixth wife of Sheikh Mohammed. In 2004 she married the King of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and in 2019, she suddenly left Dubai and went to England and asked for a divorce.
