Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra gets over 2 million followers on social media after scripting history

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has scripted history on Friday after he bagged first-ever Olympics athletic gold. He has fulfilled the dreams of many including India’s Flying Sikh – Milkha Singh and Payyoli Express – P.T. Usha. 

India’s netizens are also at the top of the world because the only Gold medal earned by Neeraj in track and field events at Olympics 2020. Neeraj ended India’s drought for the Gold medal on Friday evening as Neeraj threw 87.58 metres in his second try at the javelin throw final.

The last few hours were overwhelming for Neeraj as netizens uniquely showed their love. Neeraj’s Insta following crossed 2 million in just 24 hours, Olympic Champion now has 2.2 million followers at his Insta profile. Before going to the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Neeraj had just 10 thousand followers. 

From car to cash prizes, rewards and gifts are pouring over the 23-year-old champion.

Here’s the list of rewards:

1.) On Sunday, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra promised to gift the upcoming XUV700 to the Golden Boy of India. Mahindra Chairman made this promise while replying to a netizen’s tweet, who asked Anand Mahindra to give the champion an upcoming XUV700.

2.) As Neeraj hails from Panipat, Haryana, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced a cash reward of Rs 6 crore. CM Khatar also announced that the champion would also head the upcoming Centre for Excellence in Athletics in Panchkula. CM said, “As per our sports policy, Neeraj Chopra will get a cash reward of Rs 6 crore, a Class-I job and a piece of a plot of land at concessional rates and will head the upcoming athletics centre at Panchkula.”


3.) On Friday, Captain Amarinder Singh also announced the cash reward of Rs 2 crore for Chopra. The Chief Minister said it was a proud moment for India and all Punjabis, since the family of Neeraj Chopra, a serving soldier of the Indian Army, traces its roots to Punjab.

4.) The Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) and IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has also announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore each. CSK in a statement said, “As a mark of appreciation and honour on his stellar achievement, CSK is awarding Rs. 1 Crore to Neeraj Chopra.”


5.) The Manipur Government has announced a cash prize of Rs 1 Crore for a javelin thrower. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took Twitter to share the news and wrote, “On this historic day where India bagged an Olympic Gold medal in an athletic event after 100 years, the Manipur State Cabinet has decided to honour the Javelin throw Gold medalist @Neeraj_chopra1 by extending a reward of Rs 1 Crore. Congratulations on this historic win, Neeraj.”


6.) Realty firm Elan Group’s chairman Rakesh Kapoor has also announced the cash prize of Rs 25 lakh.

7.) On Sunday, edutech major BYJU’s has announced a cash prize of Rs 2 crore for Neeraj and Rs 1 crore for each Medallists of Olympics 2020. In a statement, the company said, “Making further strides into encouraging players across sports disciplines, the company has announced Rs 2 crores for Neeraj Chopra and Rs 1 crore each for Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Lovlina Borgohain, PV Sindhu and Bajrang Punia.” 


8.) IndiGo has announced unlimited travel for one year for Chopra. In a statement, Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “Neeraj we were all overjoyed to hear about your remarkable achievement. You have made the country proud, and I know all IndiGo employees would be truly honoured to welcome you onboard one of our flights.”
