A ‘lab on wheels' programme for students from 423 primary, 106 middle, and 211 government schools in Punjab's Nawanshahr will be launched next week. As every government school lacks adequate facilities and laboratories, this moving classroom will be a relief to students.
Students will now have the opportunity to study outside of the classroom.
Dr Shena Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Nawanshahr, said the bus will move on a rotational basis in the schools. “If schools are again shut down due to Covid, the bus will be moved to the villages and the students' houses, and training will continue,” she stated.
This moving computer and science lab has been built for Rs 48 lakh to attract as many students as possible to science and develop a scientific approach among them by providing them with practical training in an engaging manner.
The mobile classroom is well-equipped with 12 computers, WiFi, LEDs, several science-related instruments, microscopes, and various physics, chemistry, and biology models that provide detailed information on concepts like DNA, heart, skeleton, laws of light reflection, the periodic table, and so on. The main aim of the initiative is to make academics attractive so that students could learn while having fun.

The bus will travel to all of the district's primary, middle, and senior secondary schools.
Computer and science teachers from the schools will be assigned turn-by-turn to teach the students with expertise. The DC further stated that skilled and trained science teachers from government schools have been recruited for the project and that if additional staff is required, it will be assigned on a permanent basis.
A detailed monthly plan has been created, according to District Education Officer (Secondary) Jagjit Singh and the bus will stay at a specific school according to the plan after the launch. “Innovations attract students, and this will undoubtedly spark their interest in learning,” he added.
