Bhavani Devi beats history, wins India's first ever fencing match: Tokyo Olympics 2020

Indian Fencing made its Olympic debut today with Bhavani Devi, who went on to win her first match in the women's Sabre event. A little later, the men's archery team entered the quarterfinals. In the afternoon, Manika Batra will look to continue her scintillating run to an Olympic podium.

Bhavani Devi, 27, making her Games debut showcased nerves of steel as she was in complete control of her Women’s Sabre Individual Table of 64 bout, beating Tunisia's Nadia Ben Azizi 15-3. Despite a delay in the start to their bout, Bhavani Devi kept her composure and raced to an 8-0 lead.

Furthermore, India's Women Hockey team will play their second match of the quadrennial event against Germany Women after receiving a thrashing of 5-1 in their opening match against the Netherlands.
