A teacher from a famous high school in Howrah has been suspended and given a show-cause notice for her complaint against students who allegedly sent her vulgar messages during an online exam.

On August 23, the teacher was conducting an online exam for students of class 9, where allegedly a few of the students were exchanging vulgar messages. When the teacher noticed this, she asked the select students to exit the online exam.

The teacher claimed that the students were enraged by the request and started sending her vulgar messages and threatened her with extreme consequences.

After the incident, she complained about the issue with the school head but she was not taken seriously and was asked to neglect it.

Taken aback by this response, she e-mailed a formal complaint to the school authorities but was again ignored and turned down and advised to ignore it as that could end up affecting her professional career.

To no avail from the school head and the authorities, the teacher filed a complaint at the Howrah Chatterjeehat Police Station and also with their cyber cell. The complaint included the name of the students and the school which reportedly irked the school authorities and resulted in her seven-day suspension and a show-cause notice.

“The school’s approach in dealing with the issue was uncalled for”, the teacher said.

The administrator of the school, Souryo Sadhan Das refuted the claims of the teacher and said that “she has not been suspended but was only given a show-cause notice. After her complaint, the school has taken cognizance of the issue and has started looking into it. Her approaching the police was unnecessary.”

Seeing no progress, the teacher has now planned to move the court on this issue.
