Ind vs Eng Stumps Day 2: England score 555 for 8 wickets; Joe Root First foreign batsman to score a double century in India after 2010

The first Test is being played in Chennai between India and England. By the end of the second day's play, England had scored 555 runs losing 8 wickets. Dom Bess was not out scoring 28 runs and Jack Leach 6 runs. Today's day play also belonged to Joe Root. He became the first foreign batsman to score a double century in the last 10 years on Indian soil. He scored 218 runs.

Root was LBW by Shahbaz Nadeem. It was Root's 5th double century. He became England's first cricketer to complete 200 runs with six runs. At the same time, Ollie Pope was dismissed on 34 runs. He was LBWed by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ishant Sharma took 2 wickets on two consecutive balls. He sent Jose Butler on the second ball of the 170th over and Jofra Archer on the third ball. Butler was out for 30 and Archer zeroed. Ishant has 299 wickets in Tests.

India has given more than 500 runs in an innings for the second time in the last 60 Tests. Earlier in 2016, England scored 537 runs in the first innings in the Test played in Rajkot. It was the first Test of England's tour of India and was a draw.
