Detailing the ordeals of the case relatives of the victim said, “There are a few people in the village who are engaged in the drug smuggling in the village, who have threatened Sharma to get back on his call. Among the people staging a protest against the murder was Congress MLA from Jalandhar Cantt Pargat Singh, who raised his fingers at the state’s deteriorating law and order and criticised the AAP-led government.

He took a jibe at former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh saying, “Where is he (Captain Amarinder Singh) who said that he will eradicate the drug culture from the state in four weeks? The leaders in power said they will make Punjab a drug-free state in 2 months, but a brave and reputed man from the Lakhanpal village died fighting against the drug smugglers, it is very condemning and appalling.”
