Jalandhar man kills wife in Canada, later dies by suicide

In a horrific incident a man from Punjab’s Jalandhar Cantt, residing in Canada killed his wife and later jumped to death in a river.

Reportedly, the man talked to his family over video call and told them about the incident before committing suicide. The Canadian police are investigating the matter.

The couple is identified as Navdeep and Rajinder Kaur alias Ruby. Navdeep was the son of a hardware businessman Surjit Singh who resides in Deep Nagar in Jalandhar Cantt, and Ruby was from District Hoshiyarpur’s Tanda.

According to the sources, Navdeep had a serious fight with his wife after which he hit her on the head with a sharp weapon. The attack resulted in her death. The following day, Navdeep called home and told them about the incident and that he is committing suicide after which jumped into a river in Canada.

The duo got married in 2011. They had two children, a daughter and a son, aged 8 and 6, respectively. The family was living in Montreal, Canada.

Now, Navdeep’s father Surjit Singh is urging the government of India to help in bringing the dead bodies of his son and daughter-in-law from Canada to India. The family wishes to perform their last rites in their hometown Jalandhar Cantt.

Canadian police have taken the bodies under jurisdiction. So far, there is no information about the children of the couple. The reason for the fight that resulted in such an unfortunate incident remains unclear.
