Jalandhar Police working on different leads to crack murder case of Sukhmeet Deputy

Apart from being a councilor, the deceased had also served as former rural congress president.

Within a few hours after the murder of Sukhmeet Singh Deputy in local Gopal Nagar area, the Commissionerate Police have got some major clues, which would be helpful in cracking the case within a short time.

Commissionerate of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the police teams had started a thorough probe and collected some vital tips in the murder. He said that these clues including probing an insider, his old enmity in Jail, the swift car used in the crime, and an incident that took place in Ropar last month.

Bhullar also said that police would shortly get into the bottom of the case by nabbing the accused committed the crime.

The CP further added that the police have started probe using scientific and technical expertise to crack the case.

Former councilor Sukhmeet Singh alias Sukhmeet Deputy who was recently released from jail on parole in an infamous Mikki Kidnapping and Ransom case was shot dead in broad daylight by some unknown assailants at Gazi Gulla area here today.

The incident took place when the deceased was crossing Gopal Nagar area near Gazi Gulla this afternoon. As per reports, nearly a dozen bullets were fired into his body. The eyewitnesses told the police that around four men carrying fire weapons, who arrived in an I10 car, fired bullets on Sukhmeet, who was on his motorcycle.

Apart from being a councilor, the deceased had also served as former rural congress president. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital nearby where doctors declared him brought dead.

His name had earlier been in headlines after he was arrested for kidnapping Mikki Nanda, son of film distributor and colonizer Subhash Nanda. He had then demanded Rs 1 crore as a ransom amount. As per the sources, the cops recovered eight bullet shells from the spot and are checking CCTV footage to trace the accused.
