Jalandhar: Youth Congress rescues three children from begging cartel

One of the rescued children revealed that they were kept in filthy conditions, deprived of proper clothing and forced to beg every morning outside the temple.

A horrific incident has come to light in the Jalandhar district of Punjab, where three children were forced into a begging racket. Allegedly, a man used to pose as their father, forced them to begging.

Reportedly, these children were rescued by a youth Congress leader and police are investigating the matter. The statements of children are being recorded.

Youth Congress president Angad Dutta stated that his General Secretary Amritpal Singh was passing by Shri Devi Talab temple. There he noticed an 11 year old begging. On talking to the child it was discovered that the other five children were also forced to beg.

The incident was soon reported to the DC’s office following which a legal team started an investigation. A written complaint is also being filed in the matter.

When they refused, the accused would beat them mercilessly. After getting drunk, the accused would take the money and, if anyone opposed, he would beat them.

The incident has highlighted the increasing begging cartels in the city. For now, the rescued children will be sent to Child Welfare Committee.
