June 25: What All Happened On This Day In History

On June 25th, 1975 Emergency was imposed in India under the direction of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

1. 1932: India on this day had played its first official test cricket match at the Lord's Cricket Ground, London. 

2. 1947: Anne Frank a diarist of the Jewish heritage, was the victim of the Holocaust. Frank's 1st edition of The Diary Of A Young Girl, which is also known as The Diary of Anne Frank, was published on June 25th, 1947. 

3. 1975:  India's then-President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed had officially declared the imposition of Emergency Rule under Article 352 (1) of the Constitution because of the prevailing internal disturbance. The Emergency was revoked on 21 March 1977. Civil liberties were suspended, opposition leaders were imprisoned and the press remained censored while several human rights violations were also reported during this period. 

4. 1978: The Rainbow Flag that represents gay pride was first flown at San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade.

5. 1993: Kim Campbell became the first female PM of Canada and served Canada's 19th prime minister from June 25 to November 4, 1993. She is a Canadian politician, diplomat, lawyer and writer. Campbell is not only the first but the only female prime minister that Canada ever had. She was the final Progressive Conservative prime minister.
