India celebrates National Farmers’ Day on December 23, which marks the birth anniversary of the country’s former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Every year, our country celebrates Kisan Diwas on the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh (who briefly served the nation from 1979 to 1980), which is on December 23. The day is celebrated on the birthday of the former PM because he has always worked to improve the status of the food givers. 

On this day, generally, awareness is raised about the role and contribution of the farmers through campaigns, rallies and other social programs. Many other philanthropic acts are also organized in favour of farmers. 

Kisan Diwas 2021: Here are some facts about former Prime Minister Charan Singh

1.) Mr Charan Singh was born on December 23, 1902. He was the fifth Prime Minister of the independent country.

2.) He was also referred to as the 'champion of India's peasants' by historians and experts. 


3.) He was a high achiever who was graduated from Agra University with a Master of Arts (MA) degree in 1925 and a law degree in 1926. In 1928, he began practicing as a civil lawyer in Ghaziabad.

4.) In 1938, he submitted an Agricultural Produce Market Bill in the Assembly, which was published in the 31 March 1938 issue of The Hindustan Times of Delhi.

5.) He followed the footprints of Mahatma Gandhi and fought for independence, he was also arrested several times.

6.) In the 1949 Assembly, he again introduced the Agricultural Produce Market Bill, and in 1952, he became Agriculture Minister.

7.) In 1953, the Zamindari system was abolished.

8.) On December 23, 1978, the Kisan Trust was established.
