Novel Coronavirus has brought immense pain to people around the world. Healthcare workers, nurses and frontline workers are the ones who are suffering from the burden of the pandemic.

India is reeling under the devastating second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, witnessing a daily surge in numbers and fatalities the nation has never seen. Healthcare workers are working hard to save lives.

Though doctors have been successful in saving many lives, they are people who have lost their lives right in front of them, giving them a pain to an unexplainable level.

With every passing day, the covid caseload has been increasing that has hurt their mental health. Since the pandemic has started there have been reports of doctors and healthcare workers committing suicide. Many have made heartbreaking videos, appealing to people to adhere to all the necessary covid protocols strictly and do not make it difficult for them.

Dr Anirban Biswas, a Kolkata based pulmonologist had taken to Facebook live on May 12, where he spoke about the problems and issues the healthcare workers are facing not just in Bengal but across the country as well.

Speaking in Bengali, Dr Biswas stresses the need for treatment right away when the symptoms are identified, adding that he has been experiencing burnout from working for hours. Talking about the Covid situation he was in tears, urging everyone to adhere to all the covid related norms and take the pandemic seriously.

Hear him share his ordeal as a doctor.

Dr Biswas said, “ Last year's situation was not so bad. There is a huge surge in cases this year and is unexpected and expecting 1000s of beds, ventilators and Oxygen overnight is not feasible and that is not the problem. The problem is patients are waiting too long to see a doctor and trying home remedies and by the time they visit one it’s too late.”

Last year patients under treatment were recovering in 4-5 days. “This year also they are recovering in 4-5 days but only those who sought medical help in the first 2 days of symptoms onset. Patients who waited for 7-8 days are not able to survive as by this time COVID has affected the body severely leaving very little time for doctors to treat effectively, Dr Biswas added and started crying.

Patients are coming when Oxy is 78-79 and then we are suggesting getting them admitted. While beds are not available in govt hospitals, private available but very expensive not everyone can afford them. Concluding the video, Dr Biswas requested everyone to Use a mask, sanitiser and maintain distance. "Please see a doctor before symptoms start to worsen. The First 2-3 days is the time to seek medical help. Please give special attention and keep the women of the house safe,” he said.

The upsetting video appeal resonated with everyone and garnered over 8500 views on Facebook.

Taking to the comments section, Netizens assured him that they will stand by the healthcare workers and together will fight the pandemic.

"Sir, we feel your pain. May God almighty give you more physical and mental health," one user said. Another one said, "Salute sir. Stay well."
