‘Lost my pillar of strength’: Indian spinner Piyush Chawla’s father succumbs to Covid-19

On Monday(May 10), Mumbai Indians (MI) spinner Piyush Chawla lost his father to COVID-19, which was heartbreaking news . Pramod Kumar Chawla, Chawla's father, had tested positive for COVID-19 and was being treated in a Delhi hospital. He breathed his last on Monday.



Chawla, who played for the Mumbai Indians in the recently-suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, took to Instagram after his father's death to post a photo with him and ask for prayers.He said,"
 “Life won’t be same without him anymore, lost my pillar of strength today".

Irfan Pathan, Chawla's former India teammate, took to Twitter to express his condolences to his family following his father's untimely death.He wrote, "My dear brother Piyush Chawla’s father, Pramod uncle is no more. My deepest condolences to you & your family. I pray that you go thru this difficult time with patience. Uncle was a great soul and full of life. COVID has taken one more life".

Chawla was signed by Mumbai Indians in the auction this year after being released by Chennai Super Kings. He is a seasoned campaigner in the Indian Premier League. Due to Rahul Chahar's excellent form for Mumbai, he had to stay out the first half of the season.


Chawla, one of the most dominant wicket-takers in IPL history, had an average season for CSK last year after being purchased for a whopping Rs 6.75 crore. The senior leg-spinner returned to the UAE with just six wickets in seven matches and was released ahead of the auction.
