On Tuesday, an official of the Maharashtra government said that the Maharashtra Covid-19 Task Force may announce more relaxations in restrictions because of the Covid-19 while observing precautions and deliberated to tackle the upcoming third wave of the pandemic. 

The Task Force held a meeting on Monday evening, which was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, state Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, COVID-19 task force head Dr Sanjay Oak and other members.

The government official who was present during the meeting said that the government is deciding to relax Covid-19 curbs after the suggestions of doctors, experts and government departments. The main objective behind the meeting was to decide new Covid-19 restrictions. The Task Force also planned – how to tackle the upcoming third wave. 

The official informed that Task Force discussed the tackling of the pandemic third wave, which included, the requirement of medical oxygen, increasing the pace of vaccination, and effective implementation of tracing and tracking.

On Sunday, CM Uddhav Thackeray announced that only fully vaccinated people can travel in the local trains from August 15, he further said that there must be a gap of 14 days between the second jab and traveling. 

As per the issued guidelines by the government, shops may function in 25 districts till 8 pm, while 11 districts were excluded where level-3 restrictions continue to remain in force due to a higher Covid-19 positivity rate.

As per the latest guidelines, issued last week, the state government had excluded malls, cinema halls, theatres, religious places and religious gatherings from the purview of relaxations.

As per the official data, on Monday, Maharashtra reported 4,505 fresh Covid-19 cases and 68 people succumbed to the virus. The infection tally was at 63,57,833 and the death toll was at 1,34,064.
