Meet Jalandhar based Sanjay Kohli, the man behind hockey sticks of Indian women players at Tokyo Olympics

In an interview with True Scoop, Mr Kholi shared that three women hockey players, captain Rani Rampal, defender- Nikki Pradhan and forward- Sharmila Devi are using the hockey sticks by Rakshak sports.

In the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, Indian hockey teams both men and women have performed exceptionally well and made India proud. Where the Indian men’s hockey team lost semi-final match against Belgium, the squad is still hopeful for the bronze medal. 

Indian women hockey team, on the other hand, made sure that the present and future generations of Indian sports fans would remember how the 16 members overcome adversity - both on and off the field, to make history by beating superpower Australia to reach the semifinals for the first time in their Olympic history.

As the entire country is proud and praising Indian Olympians, True scoop news presents to you the man behind the weapons of these players- Sanjay Kohli, who handles the production of hockey sticks that are being used by the Indian players in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Jalandhar based Sanjay Kohli is the owner of Rakshak sports, the factory that makes the outdoors and sporting goods.

In an interview with True Scoop, Mr Kholi shared that three women hockey players, captain Rani Rampal, defender- Nikki Pradhan and forward- Sharmila Devi are using the hockey sticks by Rakshak sports. Besides, midfielder Simaranjit Singh is also using their hockey stick.

True Scoop: Can you brief us about Rakshant sports?

Mr Kohli: Rakshak Sports was incepted in 1981 and in 1982, we sponsored both Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams for Asian Games. 

In 1992, we sponsored the entire contingent for the Barcelona Olympics.

True Scoop: How do players contact you?

Mr Kohli: We've been in the industry for 40 years and are well-known in the business. Initially, we used camps and other events to approach players. Some players' parents or coaches also contact us.

True Scoop: Around 3 to 4 of the hockey team's players are from Jalandhar, although they prefer different brands of hockey sticks. Any comments?

Mr Kohli: Everyone has their own choice and we respect that.
