Mining Department in Punjab goes tech-savvy, to use drones to check illegal mining

A known criminal, Gurinder Singh alias Ginda was arrested by Khanna Police on 09.04.2021 as he was found to be involved in illegal sand mining in Rahon area of Nawanshahr. His accomplice Karanvir Singh has also been arrested by Khanna Police today.

Chandigarh, April 14: In order to eliminate illegal mining in the State, all-out efforts are being made by the government to check such mining activities as immediate cognizance is taken by the Police and Mining Department jointly. 

RN Dhoke, ED Mining, Punjab had directed Khanna Police to arrest the remaining accused involved in illegal sand mining case registered at PS Machhiwara Sahib in the last week. He had also directed to study the extent of illegal mining done in Rahon area through XEN Mining, SBS Nagar. 

A known criminal, Gurinder Singh alias Ginda was arrested by Khanna Police on 09.04.2021 as he was found to be involved in illegal sand mining in Rahon area of Nawanshahr. His accomplice Karanvir Singh has also been arrested by Khanna Police today. 

During the course of investigation, it has been revealed by the accused persons that Raju Gujjar r/o Ratnana, Dharamjit Singh r/o Shamshpur, Dalvir Singh @ Bittu r/o Barsea and Pawan Singh r/o Bharta were carrying out illegal sand mining in the river bed of Sutlej in Rahon area near villages Shamshpur and Hadiwal.

The joint team led by Gurtej Singh Garcha, XEN-cum-District Mining Officer, SBS Nagar and Jaswinder Singh, DSP Samrala visited the affected mining area yesterday and carried out drone photography to know the extent of illegal mining in Shamshpur and Hadiwal. 

The report submitted by XEN Mining will become a part of investigation file. SSP Khanna has been directed to expedite the investigation of the case and put up challan in the court on priority, said RN Dhoke, ED Mining. 

In order to curb illegal mining in the State, the strict instructions have already been issued to the officials of the districts concerned by ED Mining.
