The 23-year-old, female Indian boxer, Lovlina Borgohain was born on October 2, 1997, and belongs to the Golaghat district of Assam. Her father owns a small-scale business and faced a lot of financial struggle in fulfilling the desires of his daughter. She has two elder twin sisters who competed at kickboxing (national level) but they choose not to pursue further.
Even Lovlina started her career as a kickboxer but then she switched it to boxing. She was influenced by Mohammad Ali, and since then she started dreaming of making a career in boxing. During the trials at her school, Barpathar Girls High School, which was held by the Sports authorities, and her exceptional talent, was noticed by Coach Padum Boro, who then selected her for training. She began her training in 2012, and later on, was trained under, Shiv Singh, Chief Women’s Coach.

She was later on selected for participating in Commonwealth Games welterweight boxing category in 2018, where a controversy took place because it was noted that she had not received any official announcement about her selection. She came to know about her selection through the media, but she lost to the UK welterweight boxer Sandy Ryan in the quarterfinals, and later on, Ryan won gold.
In the same year, she took part in many competitions under the category of 69 kg; she won bronze in AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship, in New Delhi, backed 2 silver medals in Indian Women’s Senior National Championships, Rohtak, and Ulaanbaatar Cup, International Boxing championship, Mongolia. She also won gold in the 2018, Indian Open Boxing Tournament.

In 2019, she received gold and bronze in 3rd Women’s National Championship and 70th Strandja elite Women Boxing Championship respectively. In 2020, she secured a win at the 2020 Asia & Oceania Boxing Qualification Tournament, wherein she became the first sportswomen from Assam to qualify Olympics, by beating Uzbekistan’s Maftunakhon Melieva in the quarterfinals. She is really determined to win Gold in Olympics.
The girl who is seldom called the country’s second Mary Kom is only one step far from winning gold in Tokyo Olympics 2020. Today, she defeated the 12-year-old German rival Nadine Apetz and reached the quarterfinals, on 30th July, the next round is to be held, and is all set to be the second woman to win gold in Olympics after MC Mary Kom.
