Write-Ram-Ram-as-punishment coronavirus Madhya-Pradesh

As several states are trying to come up with stricter restrictions to break the chain of novel coronavirus, police in several parts of the country are forced to come up with a unique way to punish people who are flouting these restrictions.

In the latest incident in Madhya Pradesh, a police officer came up with an innovative way to punish people who are flouting Covid norms. Santosh Singh, a sub-inspector in Satna in MP, has been asking lockdown violators to write ’ Ram Ram’ in notebooks for at least 30 minutes as punishment.

Sub-inspector Santosh Singh said that he decided to punish people in this way after he got several booklets in a donation by a local community. People who do not adhere to lockdown guidelines write Lord Ram’s name for 30 to 45 minutes.

“We would earlier make them do sit-ups or make them sit for 45 minutes to an hour before allowing them to go. I just thought that they can instead write the name of Lord Ram for as long as they are comfortable,” said SI Santosh Singh.

He further said that he asks the name of the person before asking them to write Ram Ram to ensure that no religious sentiments are hurt. He also said that nobody is forced to do it.

“We have been doing it for 3 days and around 25 people have been punished so far. We have not received any complaints about it,” he said.
