MP woman thrashed, dragged & tied to tree for leaving in-laws' house, assaulters arrested

In a disturbing incident in Madhya Pradesh, a 19-year-old girl was thrashed, dragged by hair, tied to a tree and beaten with sticks by her father and cousins. The visuals of the incident have gone viral on social media, in which people can be seen standing as spectators but nobody appeared to step forward to help the girl.

Apparently, the family members of the victim were upset as the girl who got married three months ago left her in-laws' home and came home for a visit.

A video was recorded on the cell phone by the assaulters themselves in which a man can be heard saying “stop crying. Will you ever come back now?” Meanwhile, another man can be seen thrashing the girl mercilessly. He only comes to a halt when the stick he was using to beat her breaks.

Another video of the same incident shows men tying the teenager to a tree and laughing at her misery. Also, in the frame, there are several bystanders, including a young girl, however, no one seems to step forward to help the victim.

As per the media reports, the woman belongs to the tribal community and was visiting her maternal uncle’s home in Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh. On June 28, she was dragged out of the house and thrashed in public view. The videos of the assault went viral on social media after which the police have taken action.

The father and the cousins of woman are arrested and police have recorded the victim's statement.
