Punjab MLA and wife of Congress’ state unit head Navjot Singh Sidhu, Navjot Kaur Sidhu today backed opium cultivation in the state. In an inauguration event at Mahan Singh Gate Kaur alleged that “Opium is a medicine and its cultivation should be legalised in Punjab.”

Notably, Punjab PCC head Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur are supporting opium legalisation for years now. MLA Kaur believes that Opium is a medical drug that can beat the use of synthetic drugs in the state.

Navjot Kaur also alleged that “neighbouring Himachal Pradesh also advocates for the legalisation of opium cultivation." She says that controlled use of Opium should be allowed in order to beat the usage of synthetic drugs which is the main cause of death of Punjabi youth.

However, the proposal by Punjab MLA has not gone well with opposition.

Haryana home minister Anil Vij slammed Kaur, saying, "they want to carry out illegal operations in the state."

"Every day, the Punjab government (ruled by Congress) engages in operations that damage the country."

Anil Vij further stated that the Punjab government has awarded those who attacked the Red Fort. "When the country is one, the constitution is one, then we should protect our constitution rather than promote those who break the law, regardless of whether the government is led by the BJP, the Congress, or any other political party.
