A young cricket fan was shot in the face after Glenn Phillips of New Zealand pulled away a short-length delivery for a six of Shoriful Islam’s 4 delivery of the match’s 18th over.

The young fan was rushed to the Christchurch hospital right away after the incident on Sunday’s match between New Zealand and Bangladesh in the tri-nation series including Pakistan.

The powerful smack from the black caps batter hit a 12-year-old girl right above the eye. An NZ Cricket spokesperson said "She was lucid and had been assessed by doctors at the ground. She would now go to Christchurch Hospital for further checks."

A beautiful gesture came in from the batter right after sealing the match for his side by hitting two consecutive sixes to seal the match for his side.

He was seen handing her a cap after the match and NZC chief executive David White also rushed to check on the supporter.

The match saw a thumping victory by the Kiwis over the Bangla tigers chasing down a humble target of 138 with 13 balls to spare.

It was the Kiwi’s first win of the tri-nation series ahead of the grand T20 world cup while Pakistan sealed both of their encounter against the two other teams.
