
National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Punjab Police today conducted raids at the Bhindranwale's nephew and former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode residence in Hardial Nagar in Jalandhar.
NIA is linking Rode's brother Lakhbir Singh, who lives in Pakistan and leads the International Sikh Youth Federation to the recent discovery of a tiffin bomb in Amritsar.
Police have recovered a huge cache of live grenades and tiffin bomb, alongwith pistols andammunition from them. The arrested accused have been identified as GurmukhSingh Brar @GB, resident of Hardyal Nagar, Garha, Jalandhar.
Giving the details, the policespokesperson said that Kapurthala Police arrested Gagandeep Singh son ofSukhwinder Singh resident of 73B,St No 02 Gurunanak Pura Phagwara and recoveredone illegal Pistol from him.
During follow-up investigations, Gagan revealed that thePistol recovered from him was part of a larger weapons consignment that hadbeen sent from across the border over drones over the last few months. He alsodisclosed that the major part of the consignment had been hidden by his closefriend, one Gurmukh Singh, in Jalandhar.
Acting swiftly, police teams immediately raided the houseof Gurmukh Singh and arrested GB from his house and recovered 2 live handgrenades, 1 box of detonators, 2 tubes suspected to contain RDX, one roll ofhigh explosive yellow wire, Indian currency approx. 3.75 lakhs, one licensedPistol .45 bore., 14 Indian Passports, one .30 Pistol alongwith 2 magazinesfrom his possession. He disclosed further that one live Tiffin Bomb and otherexplosive material was hidden in the office of Gurmukh Singh, situated nearJalandhar Bus stand .
Police teams immediately raided the office of GurmukhSingh and during search recovered 3 live hand grenades, 1 Tiffin bomb, 4 GlockPistol magazines and packaging foam material from there.
Preliminary investigations carried out so far haverevealed that this consignment was part of a larger consignment sent by Pak ISIand Pak based pro-Khalistan terrorist groups, such as the ISYF, to carry outmultiple terror attacks in Punjab in its ongoing efforts to revive militancyand disturb peace and communal harmony in the state.
In this regard, Kapurthala police has registered case FIRNo. 92 dated 20/08/21 against Gurmukh Singh and Gagandeep Singh under sections13,16,17,18,18B,20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, 4,5 ofExplosives Substances (Amendment) Act, 2001 and 25,54, 59 of Arms Act. at PSSadar, Phagwara.
On 08.08.2021, Amritsar (Rural) police also recovered asimilar looking sophisticated tiffin bomb from village Daleke, PS Lopoke. TheRDX was installed in this tiffin bomb and had 3 different trigger mechanismsincluding switch, magnetic and spring for operational flexibility.
Further investigations in the above mentioned case are inprogress.
