Security for social media influencers who promote obscene, influential, and controversial on the platforms has been increased after they received threats from radical Sikh groups. According to certain reports, the cyber cell of the state police has worked days and nights to identify the 100 controversial posts that were ordered to be removed.
How did all this start?
The debate between social media influencers and the radical Sikh groups started after a social media influencer, Kanchan Kumari, aka Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, was murdered on June 9, 2025, and Nihang and radical Amritpal Singh Mehron and his two aides killed the social media influencer.
During the time of investigation, many such influencers have come forward and complained that they have been receiving threats for their content on social media.
Accounts are under scrutiny -
The authorities have been working diligently day and night to identify as well as monitor the social media accounts that have been posting objectionable and obscene content. It is to be reported that the authorities have been collecting relevant data to flag the accounts with inappropriate action.
It is to be reported that the flagged content is not just focused on the posts on the social media platforms, but it also includes videos and comments that are considered to be proactive or obscene.
Removal of 8,000 posts in two years
The official police data has mentioned that the cyber cell has removed more than 8,000 objectionable posts from various social media platforms within the time frame of two years.
A lot of these uploads featured young men with weapons. Removal of the content only takes place after a formal complaint is presented and authorities contact platforms. Without the actions of platforms, the case is filed under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act.
Rise in Threats Shocks the Authorities
Over the last several months, threats towards social media influencers have been rising with a troubling trend. These concerns have been worsened by the killing of Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. She was not the only target, as some other influencers have also been subjected to the same threat, but none have so far resulted in death or escalated violence.
Deepika Luthra Forced To Delete Her Account
Meanwhile, in another related incident, an influencer, Deepika Luthra, based out of Amritsar, said that she is receiving threats, believed to be by Nihang Amritpal Singh Mehron. She had removed some of her posts earlier when the threats came; however, after Kanchan Kumari was murdered, Deepika received more threats again. Eventually, she removed her whole account. Local police have arrested two suspects over the threats leveled against her, and an enlarged probe is underway. Deepika has now been issued police protection.
Preet Jatti is Projected to Face Threat as well
Yet another activist, Simarjit Kaur alias Preet Jatti of Tarn Taran district, has claimed to have received death threats over mysterious foreign numbers. She has filed an official complaint at SSP Tarn Taran, where she said that she is in danger of her life.
Grenade Throwing to Home of Roger Sandhu
Previously, an attack with a grenade was also performed at the house of influencer Roger Sandhu in Maqsudan, Jalandhar. Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti took the responsibility and said that it was done as revenge against the YouTuber, as he made some statements against Islam.
