Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday said that prime minister Narendra Modi wants to stop Arvind Kejriwal from developing Delhi and so he passed the bill that gives power to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (L-G) over the elected government and this shows that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is insecure with Kejriwal led AAP government. "Passing of the Bill shows that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government is feeling insecure with Arvind Kejriwal and his work. People have started saying that Arvind Kejriwal can be an option for Modi Ji. The bill has been brought to stop Kejriwal Ji from moving ahead," Sisodia said.

At a press conference, Sisodia said, "Everyone is talking about the Modi model (of development). People are talking about how the Modi model is failing and that Arvind Kejriwal can be an alternate...Kejriwal doesn't do tokenism. That's why they have lost sleep over it.”

"PM Modi is doing things to stop the development of Delhi, of India. He is the Prime Minister of India, he can do good work anywhere, but he won't," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to stop Kejriwal at any cost and so passed the bill to strip Delhi's power, Sisodia alleged.

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill makes it clear that the term "government" in Delhi means the Lieutenant Governor and his opinion has to be taken before the Delhi government takes any important decision.

"PM Modi has come down to negative politics today. So he will get a political reply. We are talking to our legal experts and exploring our options...CM Kejriwal is a fighter, despite their attempts in the last 6 years he fulfilled promises made in the manifesto," he added.

The BJP government wants to put obstacles against what Kejriwal has been doing. But Kejriwal is a fighter...he will not stop because of the obstacles affirmed by Mr Sisodia.

Arvind Kejriwal and his party has been protesting against the controversial bill, which was passed in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The opposition protested the legislation, with MPs from parties like the BJD, Samajwadi Party, Congress and the YSR Congress staging a walkout. With 83-45 votes in Rajya Sabha, the bill was cleared in parliament, which will make Delhi refer to the L-G before taking an action. The bill was termed as “unconstitutional” by the opposition and has demanded that it should be sent to a Select Committee for scrutiny. The bill was first passed in Rajya Sabha by voice vote.
