Following the weeks of intense heat and heatwaves, Punjab has suddenly witnessed some relief due to the influence of western disturbance. Several parts of the state have reportedly seen gusty winds and light rainfall, which has brought significant relief for the residents and citizens of the regions.
Recently, the mercury soared to 41°C, but this change in weather brought it down to 36 °C.
During this time, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a yellow alert will be issued for the next four to five days, which means certain areas of the state might witness strong winds along with light to moderate rainfall.
This situation was addressed by a weather scientist from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana - Dr Pawneet Kaur Kingra, who outlined that this sudden drop in temperature is due to the western disturbance, which has also brought gusty winds and isolated showers.
Furthermore, she highlighted that similar weather conditions are expected to prevail in several regions over the next few days.
She was quoted saying, “Due to recent western disturbances, strong winds and light showers have been observed in parts of Punjab, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, and similar weather is expected to continue for the next four to five days.”
She also clarified that this yellow alert has been issued in anticipation of more wind activity and light rain.
Along with this, PAU weather scientist Dr Kaur Kingra outlined that amid this situation, farmers have been advised to take care of their crops in the upcoming days as it could possibly affect the standing crops.
