Following the growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Punjab Police has suspended all leaves of its officers and staff with immediate effect. This order, made by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, directs all police staff to stay on duty until further orders, with exceptions allowed only under extraordinary situations.
The move comes after India launched "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, targeting terror installations in Pakistan-occupied areas. The operation was a counter-response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. Pakistan has since conducted cross-border shelling, with increased security arrangements across border states, such as Punjab.
Apart from the police force, all border districts have been put on high alert, and public events have been canceled by the Punjab government to guarantee public safety. The health sector has also been activated, with doctors', nurses', and paramedics' leaves cancelled, and medical personnel directed to report to their respective hospitals and health units without any delay.
The Punjab Police's initiative is to ensure law and order during this time of increased tension. Citizens are requested to be cautious and follow official guidelines to stay safe.
