Angry over challan, some miscreants in Punjab's Hoshiarpur chops off ASI's leg

The attackers chopped off Amrik Singh’s leg, threw it 15 feet away following which they fled the scene leaving the cop to die.

In a horrifying incident, a policeman was attacked, his leg was chopped off and thrown 15 feet away in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur. The police officer had to pay this heavy price for doing his duty honestly. The disturbing incident took place near Aima Jattan village of Mahilpur area of Punjab’s Hoshiarpur.

Reportedly, ASI Amrik Singh was heading home on his bike at around 8.30 p.m when a group of miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons late Tuesday night (August 24). They chopped off his leg, threw it 15 feet away following which they fled the scene leaving the cop to die.

As per the reports, it is suspected that the attackers argued with ASI Amrik Singh after he issued a challan to them a few days ago and they attacked ASI in order to take revenge.

Injured ASI was spotted unconscious, wrenched on road by a village resident Makkhan Singh who then informed the village sarpanch. Following this ASI was rushed to hospital and a police case has been registered against unidentified youths under sections 307 and 34 IPC.

The family of the victim also took his severed leg to hospital however it could not be reattached. The 50 year old’s is receiving treatment at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar's IVY Hospital. His condition remains critical.

The brutal attack on ASI Amrik Singh appears to be a longstanding rivalry, according to Bikramjit Singh, in charge of Outpost Kotfatuhi under Mahilpur police station, who is investigating the matter. “A case has been ledged and police have been investigating the matter from every aspect.”

The police have recorded Makkhan Singh’s statement and are searching for the accused.

Amrik Singh is the father of two daughters, both cleared class 12th exams recently and a son Jashandeep Singh who is in class 11. The victim's family has yet to inform his father Resham Singh and wife Niranjan Kaur about Amrik Singh's amputated leg. The only information they have been provided is that Amrik Singh's health is deteriorating.
