‘Rail Roko Protest’: Farmers disrupt trains' movement at several locations in Ludhiana, commuters hit

Farmers in Punjab and Haryana sitting on rail tracks on Monday morning as part of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha's six-hour 'rail roko' protest demanding the dismissal and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

In agitation with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, the farmers declared a six hours 'Rail Roko' protest on Monday i.e 18th October'2021 starting from 10am to 4pm. The protest is due to demanding the dismissal and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. 


The protest is causing huge inconvenience to the passengers who were unaware about the protest and are stuck at railway station. The Railway authorities have made sure that all the passengers at Ferozpur Railway Division are not facing any issue and have made several arrangements for the people stuck. In Ludhiana, four of the railway tracks are blocked including Ludhiana, Ladowal, Dhandari and Sahnewal.

At the Ludhiana Railway Station, huge number of men and women can be seen protesting and sitting on tracks demanding their rights. Protesting farmers, including women, raised slogans against the BJP-led government and demanded the arrest of Ajay Mishra. Security was deployed at railway stations in the wake of the 'rail roko' protest. 






At Ludhiana railway station —  one of the busiest in Punjab — a person headed for Jodhpur rued that he came to know about the protest after reaching the station. He appealed to farmer leaders to lay siege to the residences of politicians rather than harassing the common man. "They should think about the public." A man waiting for his train at Ludhiana station with his family said they have to rush for Gonda in Uttar Pradesh as one of their relatives has died.


Demanding the arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher on Monday said the KMSC will hold protests at 20 places in 11 districts of Punjab.
