An animal rights group saved 50 caged dogs from a horrid meat farm in Yongin city, South Korea. The dogs were kept in metal cages and forced to watch other pups being slaughtered.

The authorities have shut down the facility after the Korean Animal Protection workers found dogs in terrifying conditions. The dogs had horrifying injuries, kept without proper access to food and water, and were ready to send for slaughter.

The farmers running the facility vacated the place, leaving animals after local officials ordered the demolition of the property.  The rescuers said that when they found dogs, many of them were visibly shaken, traumatized, and terrified of humans. Those dogs were also suffering from malnutrition and skin diseases. Their feet were sore from standing on the wire floor of the cages.

The director of international media for Humane Society International, Wendy Higgins said, “Many of these dogs were really afraid when our rescuers entered the farm, pressing their bodies to the back wall of their cage and hiding their faces. So they were clearly traumatized and afraid of people.”

“I shudder to think of the horrors that they will have witnessed on the farm, especially as this facility also had a dog slaughterhouse on site so they will have seen and heard dogs being killed,” she added.

Maximum rescued dogs were Jindos and Mastiffs breed, which are often promoted as meat breeds. However, the majority of the population does not prefer to have dog meat as most want to keep them as pets.

Kim, one of the rescuers said, “I am horrified to think how many dogs lost their lives there. The sooner we can end the dog meat industry, the sooner we can see an end to such pitiful scenes of animal suffering.”
