Rolls Royce owner, Shiv Sena leader booked in power stealing case, party denies

Failing to pay the bill along with the penalty amount, the MSEDCL officials lodged a police complaint against Gaikwad for electricity theft on June 30.

A Kalyan based Shiv Sena leader and businessman who had recently bought a Rolls Royce car priced at Rs 8 crore has been booked for electricity stealing of around Rs 35,000. 

An FIR has been registered against the businessman - Sanjay Gaikwad by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for alleged electricity theft.

Gaikwad is a developer and recently has purchased a Rolls Royce that costs 8 crores and has been booked under a case for power stealing. 

A case against Mr Gaikwad was lodged at the Kolsewadi police station in Kalyan, Mumbai after a complaint was filed by officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL). Sources suggest that MSEDCL officials came to know about the power theft in March at a construction site that is owned by Gaikwad in the Koksewadi area of Kalyan East. Following the disclosure of the theft, a bill of Rs 34,840 was sent to Gaikwad and he was directed to pay a penalty of Rs 15,000.

Gaikwad on July 13 paid the sum of Rs 49,840 which included Rs 34,840 for "power theft" and Rs 15,000 as "settlement amount", the MSEDCL informed in a press release on Monday 

Meanwhile, a Shiv Sena functionary stated that these charges by MSEDCL officials against Gaikwad are untrue and said he is not involved in any power theft. The functionary has asked the concerned officials to further investigate the matter.
