Republic, starring Sai Dharam Tej and Aishwarya Rajesh and directed by Deva Katta, was released on Friday after being delayed owing to the pandemic.

The film follows Abhiram (Sai Dharam Tej), a young guy who grows up despising the corruption that his father Dasharath (Jagapathi Babu) participates in as a gazetted officer. He postpones his ambitions to study civil engineering at MIT in the United States in order to make a difference on the ground as a Collector. The local elections are won by Vishakha Vani (Ramya Krishnan), and her son Vishnu Vardhan takes over as mayor. Myra Hansen (Aishwarya Rajesh) is an NRI who is searching for her missing brother while also caring for his two children.

Republic is a mixed bag thus far, peppered with songs that offer some light-hearted moments to an otherwise serious picture. While Deva Katta fails to establish Abhi and Myra's love, he triumphs in creating the world in which the film is set. Eluru and Thelluru Lake, with their regional flavour, have virtually become spectators to the corruption that has seeped into the earth and waterways here.

The director also writes strong monologues that criticise the politics of false encounters in rape cases and people in positions of power. With the film getting right into the heart of things just before the intermission, it'll be interesting to watch how the second half plays out.

Also, Natural Star Nani praised Sai Dharam Tej's forthcoming film Republic on Twitter on Thursday (September 30). He conveyed his opinions after seeing the special screening of Republic. Republic, he said, was a worthy return for filmmaker Deva Katta.

Nani's tweet read, "Watched Republic. For all the kindness @IamSaiDharamTej has shown towards everyone around him it has come back in the form of your prayers and it’s coming back stronger in the form of #REPUBLIC. This is @devakatta‘s announcement that he is back. Congratulations to the team."

On September 10, Sai Dharam Tej was involved in a bike accident. He demanded  that his film be released on October 1 as scheduled. Republic is a political thriller directed by Deva Katta, as the title indicates. Aishwarya Rajesh, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Subbaraj, and Rahul Ramakrishna play supporting roles in the film.
