A high voltage drama continued in Sector-20 in Chandigarh where a heavy police force of Mohali police raided the residence of former DGP Punjab Sumedh Saini on Monday evening. According to an eyewitness, the police team in civil dress blocked the front and rear passages of Saini’s house and cordoned the entire area.

However, when the police team arrived at the Saini’s residence, the gate was locked from inside and the team has to wait for over two hours to enter the house. It was only after the arrival of Chandigarh police, the lawyer of Saini let the police team enters the house for a search. At the time of the raid former DGP was not present in the house. The raiding officials were lip-tight and refuse to provide any information that under which case the raid has been conducted. The officers said that they should complete their action first, and then they will talk about it. Sources claimed that a fresh case has been registered against the former Punjab DGP under a criminal conspiracy.

Notably, in the year 2015, when the incidents of desecration of  Guru Granth Sahib took place in Punjab and after that people were fired upon in Bahbalkalan and Kotakpura, at that time Sumedh Singh Saini was the DGP of Punjab. A case was registered against Saini in this regard. The Congress came to power after the 2017 Assembly elections and the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. After the report of that SIT was rejected by the High Court, Captain Government has again formed a new SIT to investigate the sacrilege case. This SIT had also questioned Saini recently.

A murder case has also been registered against Sumedh Singh Saini in connection with the disappearance of Balwant Singh Multani, son of a senior IAS officer, 29 years ago. In this case, Saini has got interim bail from the Supreme Court.

Former Punjab DGP name also appeared in a land dispute case in which Punjab and Haryana High Court recently attached his Sector-20 kothi, where he is staying as a tenant.

The search at the residence of former Punjab DGP, Sumedh Saini continues till the filing of this report at 12 am. According to information, the police has video graphed the entire house which suggests that the fresh case registered against Saini might be related to the Saini’s kothi only.
