Shoaib Akhtar reveals phone conversation with 'Queen of Melody' Lata Mangeshkar; 'She told me to call her Ma'

Pakistan's former speedster Shoaib Akhtar on his YouTube channel shared a video on Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar and shared his conversation with the Queen of Melody on a phone call back in 2016.

Entire India went into grief India's legendary singer and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar on Sunday passed away 28 days after hospitalisation due to multiple organ failure while undergoing COVID-19 treatment. As soon as the death of Lata Mangeshkar was announced, condolences poured from all corners of the world. Not only from India, but Pakistani cricketers also extended their condolence for the 'Queen of Melody' through social media. Now, Pakistan's former speedster Shoaib Akhtar on his YouTube channel shared a video on Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar and shared his conversation with the Queen of Melody on a phone call back in 2016. 

Speaking about his conversation with late singer Lata Mangeshkar, Akhtar said,, "When I was working in India in 2016, I had the opportunity to talk to Lata Mangeshkar ji over a phone call. She greeted me in her beautiful voice. She asked me 'Beta tum kaise ho?' (Son how are you?) I replied I am fine and queried about her health. She told me to call her ma. Then I called her Maji (Mother)."

As the conversation went further, Akhtar stated that the legendary singer told him that she has his many matches, especially his battle with the 'Little Master Sachin Tendulkar. Akhtar said, "Lata ji said I know you, I have watched your matches, you are very aggressive. You play very well. Your anger is very famous. She also said my Urdu is very good. I also told her the same. Then she said yes she has read many Urdu Shayari, songs. I further asked her to meet and she told me to come to meet after Navratri and Roza."

Lata Mangeshkar cremated with full state honour


Lata Mangeshkar on Sunday was accorded a state funeral in the evening at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Her cremation took place at around 7:15 pm. Earlier in the day,  the Centre announced a period of two-day national mourning to be observed in memory of the legendary playback singer. The Maharashtra government also announced a public holiday on Monday, February 7, to mourn the loss of the legendary playback singer.
