Former Union Minister and Congress MP Manish Tewari on Thursday lashed out at Navjot Singh Sidhu for allegedly claiming internal conflict in the state unit.

With the intervention of Tewari in the matter it seems like the Punjab Congress crisis might not come to an end by July 10.

While speaking to an eminent media agency, Tewari, on July 8, sought Congress High Command’s action on certain leaders who were running their own agendas on Twitter.

He further took a dig at Navjot Sidhu for allegedly claiming disparity in the party and said, “Congress was united and will contest polls unitedly in Punjab.”

“There is no problem in the state, there are some issues due to the step-motherly treatment of the Central government. However, if someone wants to take on his personal agenda through Twitter or any other medium then the leaders at the AICC should take it seriously,’ he added.

Navjot Sidhu for over months now has been consistently targeting Punjab CM over several issues and the recent power crisis in the state added fuel to fire.

Backing Capt Amarinder’s governance, Tewari said that since the formation of Punjab state until 2017, no party has been able to gather 77 assembly seats out of 117.

Congress has won 3 Assembly by-polls, 8 Lok Sabha seats out of 13 seats in Punjab, he asserted.

"Congress has also secured victory in more than 90 percent of the local bodies. If you ask any MP whom they had called for their campaign, they would say that the Captain. The Punjab government is doing well but only a few people have their own agenda," added Tewari.

Notably, the latest reaction from Manish Tewari has come days after Punjab CM had met Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi to agree to the truce formula to accommodate Sidhu in the state unit.

Post-meeting the Congress chief, Capt Amarinder said, “Whatever decision Sonia takes, will abide by it.”

However, he refrained to comment on Navjot Sidhu’s induction in the Punjab Congress.

According to the sources, Capt Amarinder was successful at convincing Sonia Gandhi for electing a ‘Hindu’ face as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPC) chief, to replace Sunil Jakhar. Notably, Manish Tewari is among the forerunners to take on this position.

This is the purposeful intention of Capt Amarinder as it will aid the party to balance the vote bank for the upcoming Assembly elections 2022.

Earlier, Capt Amarinder has refused to work as a CM with Sidhu if he becomes state unit’s president and has offered to induct him either into the Cabinet or as an Election Campaign Committee Chief, Election Manifesto Committee Chief.

As per the reports of sources, the Punjab Congress crisis are likely to end by July 10 but at what designation Sidhu will be accommodated remains latent.
