Mumbai: Aryan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan's son, is released from a Mumbai jail today after nearly four weeks. The 23-year-old was granted release in the drugs-on-cruise case by the Bombay High Court on Thursday, but he spent two nights in jail after his bail papers missed the 5:30 p.m. deadline on Friday after a tense wait that lasted only seconds.

Fans have been lining up outside Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat house with "Welcome Home, Aryan" banners since the morning. The megastar's crew was previously seen departing towards the Arthur Road Jail.

Former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi battled for Aryan Khan's release in the High Court for three days.

The 1 lakh bail bond for Aryan was signed by actor Juhi Chawla, who was Shah Rukh Khan's co-star in his early film career.

The Mumbai sessions court needed to take this step in order to sign the release papers, which were to be forwarded immediately to the jail.

During his arrest on October 2 following a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raid on a cruise ship party, Aryan Khan spent nearly a month in jail. In the case, he was "Accused Number 1" out of a total of 20 people detained.

Although no narcotics were found on him, the anti-drugs agency claimed in court that his WhatsApp conversations revealed his involvement in "illicit drug deals" and ties to a foreign drug gang.

The Bombay High Court has imposed 14 restrictions on Aryan Khan's release, including the need that he not leave Mumbai without first telling the police and that he appear before the agency every Friday.
