A tragic incident has been reported in Nashik, Maharashtra, where a senior IPS officer of the 2012 Haryana cadre, Smiti Chaudhary, passed away early Friday morning at around 6 am.
According to the preliminary information, she was 48 at the time of death and was seeking medical treatment for an illness.
When Smiti Chaudhary died, she was serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Ambala. It is to be noted that it is her untimely demise that has surely sent shockwaves through the police force and the wider administrative community in Haryana and beyond.
It is worth mentioning that IPS Chaudhary belonged to a family of distinguished civil servants. She was married to Rajesh Kumar, who was a senior IPS officer and has been currently serving as Director at the Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA).
She was the daughter of a senior Haryana cadre IAS officer, Jayawanti Sheokand, and sister to IAS officer Yashendra.
IPS Chaudhary hailed from Garhi village in the Kaithal district and was well-known for her hard work and being a sincere and empathetic officer. Following the sudden demise, tributes were poured in on social media from police and administrative officials.
