Suicide Survey: Domestic disputes, exam failures, love affairs are major reasons for SUICIDE among teenagers

In comparison to 2018, the number of suicides increased by 3.4 percent in 2019.

In India, one suicide is reported every four minutes. In the year 2019, about 1.39 lakh persons committed suicide. People between the ages of 14 and 30 made up 41% of the total. The young generation is somewhat less than half of the country's total population.Domestic conflicts, love affairs, exam failures, and marriage-related issues are among the leading causes of suicide among these young people. Smriti Irani, the Minister for Women and Child Development, announced this in the Lok Sabha on July 30.

Suicide cases are also on the rise in the country, according to the NCRB. In comparison to 2018, the number of suicides increased by 3.4 percent in 2019. Domestic conflict is the leading cause of suicide. People also commit suicide after learning that they have a sickness.

From 2017 to 2019, the highest number of suicides were caused by domestic disputes. In 2019, a total of 79,607 persons committed suicide, with 23 percent of those committing themselves due to a marital disagreement. The number of men between the ages of 18 and 30 is higher than the other age categories. Suicide is caused by illness, which is the second leading cause of death.

After this, due to disputes in marriage, failure in exam and unemployment- maximum number of people have committed suicide.

In these 3 years, 202 women have committed suicide due to rape or physical torture. Among them, the number of young girls in the age group of 14-18 years is more than half of the number of the victims.

Domestic disputes, failure in exams and love affairs are the biggest reasons for suicide among teenagers.Talking about 14-18 year old teenagers, like 18-30 age group, the biggest reason for suicide here is domestic discord. The second biggest reason is failure in the exam. After this, most teenagers commit suicide due to love affairs. In 2019, 2,151 teenagers committed suicide due to domestic strife, 1,379 because of failure in exams and 1,257 because of love affair. That is, 57% of the total adolescents committed suicide due to these three reasons.

202 women have committed suicide as a result of rape or physical torture in the last three years. The number of young girls between the ages of 14 and 18 years is more than half of the total number of victims.

Domestic disagreements are also the leading cause of suicide among young people (18 to 30 years old), with illness coming in second. As a result of these issues, youths are more likely to commit suicide. Following this, the majority of young people commit suicide as a result of love affairs. In 2019, 16,280 teenagers committed suicide as a result of domestic violence, 5,786 as a result of sickness, and 4,786 as a result of marriage related problems. That is, more than half of the total youth committed suicide due to these three reasons.

From 2017 to 2019, a total of 13,386 people committed suicide as a result of marital issues. Approximately a quarter of these suicides (4509) were caused by dowry, with 93 percent of the victims being women. In those three years, 59 such girls, ranging in age from 14 to 18, committed suicide as a result of dowry. Dowry is the leading cause of suicide. In the year 2019, 1,427 women committed suicide as a result of dowry.

The second most common reason for suicide is illness. Every year for the past three years, over 6500 people have committed suicide as a result of illnesses. The majority of these individuals committed suicide as a result of mental illness or insanity. Cancer, AIDS, and paralysis are among the other diseases due to which youth commit suicide.

Women who are socially regarded as more emotional are emotionally stronger than men. More males than women have committed suicide after the death of their loved ones.

In the year 2019, 5,957 farmers took their own lives. Maharashtra state has the highest (2680) numbers. Following this, 1331 farmers in Karnataka committed suicide. Between 2017 and 2019, 17,675 farmers committed suicide across the country for various causes.

Suicide cases climbed by 3.5 percent in the country from 2018 to 2019. Bihar had the highest number of reported suicides. In 2018, there were 443 suicides in the state, which grew to 641 in 2019. In Punjab, the number of suicides has climbed by 37%. In Himachal Pradesh, fewer individuals committed suicide in 2019 than in 2018. Suicide cases have decreased by 21% in the last year.
