Amarinder Singh’s replacement included former PCC chiefs Sunil Jakhar and Pratap Bajwa and state ministers Sukhjinder Randhawa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Tript Rajinder Bajwa. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is the new Punjab ChiefMinister, announced Congress's high command.

Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is a Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly (MLA) and represents Dera Baba Nanak. He was a Punjab state cabinet minister holding the department of jails and cooperatives.

Sources suggest that after the inputs from the MLAs through political observers Ajay Makan, Harish Chaudhry and state in-charge Harish Rawat, the final decision to appoint Randhawa as the CM was taken by Rahul Gandhi in a meeting held in Delhi with senior leaders of the party that included veteran politician Ambika Soni, who has rejected the offer for the same saying a Sikh must be the face of Punjab.

Earlier there were reports that Sunil Jakhar would become the new Chief Minister of the state but as the demand for Sikh face rose, Sukhjinder Randhawa was considered.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring upon the politician and Congress leaders have started gathering at Lal Singh residence in Chandigarh.

Sukhjinder Singh hails from Dharowali, Gurdaspur district.

Randhawa was a strong anti-Captain voice in the state. He had been a significant part of the rebellion against Amarinder Singh alongside PPCC president Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Reportedly, Navjot Singh Sidhu had promoted his name for the CM during a late-night meeting between Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat and central observers.

Aruna Chaudhary and Bharat Bhushan Ashuwould be Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab.

Yesterday, Capt Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister. The key political development came after speculations of a no-confidence motion against Capt were aired.

Later, Capt stated that he would not support Navjot Singh Sidhu as Chief Minister as Navjot has close relations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In an interview with a reputed news agency, furious Capt Amarinder has linked Sidhu’s probable election as new CM to the matter of national security. “Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, is a close friend of his," said Capt adding that "Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has a relation with Sidhu.”
