Thunderstorms & flooding tighten grip: Check full 5-day IMD PUNJAB forecast

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Chandigarh released a weather forecast for the upcoming days - which shares the details regarding rainfall and thunderstorm activity across various districts or regions of the state.

The Northern Region of India has been currently witnessing monsoon spells, due to which different areas have been dealing with very heavy to heavy to moderate rainfall - which has also resulted in flooding and devastation. 

On July 9, 2025, Wednesday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Chandigarh released a weather forecast for the upcoming days - which shares the details regarding rainfall and thunderstorm activity across various districts or regions of the state. 

July 9, 2025 
Wednesday 

Very heavy rainfall was expected in a few regions, including Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur. Along with this, heavy to moderate rainfall was expected in Amritsar, Nawanshahar, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala. The remaining regions of the state are expected to witness less to no rainfall. 

While highlighting thunderstorms, the department has notified that Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur will also witness strong thunderstorms and gusty and dusty winds.

Thursday

According to the latest update by the Indian Meteorological Department, the rain spell will reduce to moderate to isolated on Thursday. However, a few episodes of rainfall will be witnessed in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahar, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala. And the remaining regions will experience less to no rainfall.

Friday to Sunday 

The department has mentioned that weather conditions will remain moderate between Friday and Sunday as there are no or fewer expectations for rainfall and thunderstorms.

How will the monsoon be in July 2025?

The India Meteorological Department has forecast an above normal exceeding 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA), for the month of July 2025. Speaking at a virtual press conference organised by the weather agency on June 30, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology at IMD, stated that many parts of the country are likely to experience normal to above-normal rainfall.

However, IMD also stated that most parts of Northeast India & many parts of East India, extreme South Peninsular India, and some areas of Northwest India are likely to receive below-normal rainfall.)
