Tokyo Olympics 2020: Russian Archer Svetlana Gomboeva Faints During Archery Event

The women's individual ranking event, which was dominated by Korean archers, kicked off the archery competition at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Friday. The Korean trio of AN San, Jang Minhee, and Kang Chaeyoung finished first, second, and third, respectively. San finished first and set a new Olympic Record with a score of 680, Jang Minhee came in second with 677 points, and Chaeyoung came in third with 675 points.

On Friday, Korea's AN San broke the Olympic record in the individual ranking event for women's archery, which had stood for 25 years. The 20-year-old beat Lina Herasimenko's record of 673 points set during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics by seven points. The Korean ladies scored a total of 2032 points, shattering the previous Olympic team qualification mark established in 2004.Deepika Kumari of India, the world's number one archer, finished ninth with a total score of 663 out of 720 after suffering in the preliminary rounds. She will now compete in the Elimination Rounds, which begin on July 27th against Bhutan's Karma.
