Viral sexual assault case: Police traces rape-survivor to Kerala, brought back to Bengaluru for investigation

The police have recorded her statement and the sexual assault survivor has undergone medical tests at the Government Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals.

In the latest development of the heinous crime of sexual assault of a 22-year old whose video went viral, the rape survivor has been located. Bengaluru police traced the victim to Kozhikode, Kerala and brought her back to the city to participate in the investigation.

“Our team traced her in Kerala on Saturday and brought her from Kozhikode on Sunday,” said the Deputy Commissioner of Police Bengaluru East, Dr. S D Sharanappa. She has taken shelter at a friend’s house in the area.

The police have recorded her statement and the sexual assault survivor has undergone medical tests at the Government Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals. The statement by the woman corroborates the information gathered during the investigation and questioning of the accused.

The perpetrators, now arrested, ran a forced sex work trade in multiple states. Accused along with the victim are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. The woman was lured by promising a job and was forced into human trafficking.

The matter came into light after the video of sexual assault went viral in Assam. After this, the Assam police ran an investigation and traced the accused to Bengaluru, from where they were arrested by Bengaluru police.

In the investigation around 7 people were arrested including two women, who allegedly run prostitution racket. One of the accused was identified as a resident of the Mogbazar area, where he was popular as TikTok Star or Hirody Babu. Allegedly he had used his TikTok fame to convince the woman for coming to India and later sexually assaulted her with his companions.
